Pictures of the New Ercoupe’s Cockpit
by Bill ~ September 17th, 2008. Filed under: Buying an Ercoupe, Pictures.OK, the other set of photographs show the outside of the Ercoupe. Now we get to see a little bit of the inside and the controls. After all, the pilot and passenger get to see “this” part of the plane. Other folks get to see the outside. (Click the images for a larger view.)
The cabin (or cockpit) window is closed in this photo - but the Ercoupe can comfortably be flown with the window open. It gives much the same feeling as riding in a convertible.
The Ercoupe interior upholstery was redone only a few years ago. It is about the best looking interior we’ve seen in a plane of this age and in this price range.
The Instrument Panel is strictly DAy VFR with a comm radio, transponder, and intercom. The communications radio has all of the modern channels and the transponder is a Mode C - so we can travel “just about” anywhere. There is also a stereo intercom with PTT switches on each control yoke, and even an iPod input for those long flights.

Looks like a beauty. I am part owner of a yellow 415C that is hangared in Frederick, Md. Really enjoy flying them. Been flying since 1951 with over 5,000 hours. Ercoupe is the best.
Are you planning to go to the Ercoupe Convention in June at Dayton, Ohio ?
I also have a Garmin Pilot III but have it on the windscreen being help in place by velcro. Plan is to hookup the power cord off the bsttery to save the double A’s for emergency.

Thanks for the compliment. It really is a fun airplane. I am hoping to get a lot more familiar with it this year. And, yes, I am seriously considering the trip to Dayton for the Ercoupe Convention.
The old Garmin unit works well, but may soon be replaced with either an ATC or an AV8OR. Then I’ll move the Pilot III to the right side and use it primarily as backup. That’s why I have not yet done anything about power cord management.
If you consider flying over to 0W3 this spring I’ll offer to take you to lunch in Havre de Grace. I’d love to see your ‘Coupe.

Such a great airplane. I hope you are still enjoying it, and I hope to enjoy my own someday.
